A Guest Lecture on Essentials of Cyber Security was organized by IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter, University of Moratuwa. The session was held via zoom on 7th February,2021 at 6.00 p.m.
With the Covid 19 pandemic, the use of the cyber space has increased significantly. Most of our day today tasks like education, shopping even banking is now done online. Cyber security has become a vital component in almost every system irrespective of the field involved. People in every single country and continent deal with multitude of modern technological trends such as mobile devices, cloud computing, social media, and big data. Hence, it is important that an engineering undergraduate has a grasp on the basics of Cyber Security. Understanding this necessity, IEEE IAS SBC of University of Moratuwa set forth on an initiative to deliver the fundamentals of Cyber Security to buddying young engineers through a workshop.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Sarada Hettiarachchi and Mr. Nadeesha Ranaweera from CISCO Networking Academy, University of Moratuwa, and saw the participation of many young enthusiasts. Important aspects such as the need for Cyber Security, the profile of a cyber attacker, cyberwarfare, analyzing a cyber-attack, methods of infiltration were discussed. The interactiveness of the workshop allowed the participants to clear all the doubts and questions they had. And the participants got a valuable chance to register for a free course on Cyber Security provided by Cisco Networking Academy.
